The Education Foundation of Fairfield Public Schools will be receiving a 2009 Governor?s Volunteer Award for its outstanding contribution of volunteer service to the community.
?We?re glad to see the education foundation get it,? said Don Achelpohl, Fairfield Community School District superintendent.
The award will be presented to the foundation?s current president Jodi Kerr during a ceremony at 1 p.m. Aug. 7 in the St. John Auditorium on the Indian Hills Community College campus in Ottumwa. A reception is planned following the ceremony.
Achelpohl has arranged for a school district Suburban to transport board members and education foundation officers to the ceremony. Community members are welcome to attend the ceremony also.
As public monies became scarcer and education demands increased, the Education Foundation of Fairfield Public Schools was organized in March 1997 to enable needs to be met in a timelier manner and to create opportunities for broader educational experiences not available for students and teachers through the district?s regular budget.
