Eighth-grade boys win back-to-back titles
FORT MADISON ? The Fairfield eighth-grade boys? track team won a conference title as seventh-graders and added another as eighth-graders Friday at the conference meet in Fort Madison.
The Fairfield boys scored 119 points, topping the eight-team field and second-place Fort Madison by 15. Ottumwa finished in distant third with 79 points.

FORT MADISON ? The Fairfield eighth-grade boys? track team won a conference title as seventh-graders and added another as eighth-graders Friday at the conference meet in Fort Madison.
The Fairfield boys scored 119 points, topping the eight-team field and second-place Fort Madison by 15. Ottumwa finished in distant third with 79 points.
Luis Jimenez led the Trojans with first-place finishes in the discus (101? 10.75?), 400-meter dash (59.57), and he was a member of the winning 4x400 relay (3:59) along with Jake Unkrich, Jordan Reid and Zach Martin. Jimenez also finished third in the 100-meter dash (12.6).
Martin won the open-800 (2:19) and anchored the 4x800 relay to a first-place finish in 9:59. Others on the relay were Roan Wadsworth, Trevor Drish and Jordan VanDijk.
Additional victories came from the Trojans? distance medley relay (4:26) featuring Unkrich, Reid, Wadsworth and Alex Crile; as well as the sprint medley (1:54) of Crile, Reid, Drew Stever and Nathan Davidson.
Reid was second in the high jump (5? 2?), Drish finished runner-up in the 800 (2:29) and the shuttle hurdle relay also took second (1:10).
Justin Swanson finished third in the 200-meter hurdles (29.7).
The Fairfield seventh- and eighth-grade boys conclude the season today at Washington.

Seventh-graders place second
FORT MADISON ? The Fairfield seventh-grade track team had three wins and ended up in second place at the conference meet Friday.
The Trojans scored 101 to finish behind champion Mount Pleasant?s 142 points. Burlington?s James Madison came in third with 92.
Michael Fritz was the individual champion in the shot put (35?), while Cam Baumann took the title in the discus (110? 1?). The team of Brandon Smithburg, Kyle Roberts, Brayden Miller and Tony Zapata won the shuttle hurdle relay in a time of 1:14.
Zapata tacked on a pair of runner-up placings in the 100-hurdles (17.2) and 200-hurdles (30.4). The 4x400 relay consisting of Walker Allen, Navin Martin, Josh Osby and Elijah Parr was second in 4:37.
Third-place finishes came from Fritz in the discus (95? 3.5?) and Baumann in the 100 (12.9), as well as Fairfield?s 4x800, distance medley and sprint medley relays.
The Fairfield seventh- and eighth-grade boys conclude the season today at Washington.
