FAIRFIELD – An Eldon man was arrested after a high-speed chase with law enforcement officers that stretched from Fairfield to Agency.
According to a news release from the Fairfield Police Department, Ryan Richard Reed, 26, was arrested early on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 1 after a Fairfield Police officer attempted to stop Reed’s vehicle. The news release stated that the officer was on patrol at 1:23 a.m., and observed a known stolen vehicle leaving Casey’s General Store on Libertyville Road in Fairfield.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but instead of pulling over, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. Officers from the Fairfield Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office pursued the vehicle onto Highway 34, and later back into the city limits. The pursuit continued south through Fairfield and eventually through Libertyville.
The chase continued west, entering Wapello County, where deputies from the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office joined in the pursuit. The chase entered Eldon, and then onto Highway 16 and Ashland Road.
The news release states that law enforcement attempted to use “pursuit intervention techniques,” but they were unsuccessful. The chase ended when Reed’s vehicle entered a steep ravine, west of the railroad tracks on the south side of Agency. Reed fled on foot before he was apprehended by law enforcement personnel.
Reed was charged with possessing stolen property, eluding, possession of a controlled substance, interference with official acts, driving while license barred, reckless driving and numerous other traffic offenses. The news release noted that Reed has eight outstanding warrants for his arrest from surrounding agencies. He was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility, and held on bond pending an initial court appearance.
