Drivers in Trenton should make themselves aware of some newly erected signs on certain streets in town.
As of Thursday morning, Henry County engineer Jake Hotchkiss, with approval from the Henry County Board of Supervisors, has placed a weight restriction of five tons on the following Trenton roadways:
? Ash Avenue from Merrimac Road (1st Street) to 170th Street (5th Street)
? 2nd Street from Ash Avenue to Birch Avenue
? 3rd Street from Ash Avenue to Birch Avenue
The temporary weight restrictions are marked with road signs and will remain in effect until county officials lift them.
Hotchkiss currently has crews working to repair what damage has already been done on those streets.
?Due to the frost conflicting with some of our sealcoated city streets in Trenton, we have to put a weight restriction on those streets until further notice,? Hotchkiss explained to the Henry County Board of Supervisors on Thursday. ?We are only putting weight restrictions on the roads that we think have issues with big trucks driving on them and cracking pavement.?
For garbage trucks and other heavy trucks that must travel down the newly restricted streets, Hotchkiss says drivers may obtain a permit to do so by contacting the Henry County Engineer?s Office at 319-385-0762.
