Estey announces move within Fairfield, will vacate Fourth Ward seat on council

Fairfield’s Fourth Ward City Council member Elizabeth Estey filed written notice she will vacate her seat on the Fairfield City Council due to relocating within the community.

Vacancies occurring on or before Sept. 16 must be filled at the next regular city election, so Fourth Ward will be added to the upcoming election ballot along with First, Third, Fifth Wards, At Large, and Mayor on November 7, 2023.

Any interested eligible elector may submit nomination petition papers and affidavit of candidacy by 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 to the City Clerk at Fairfield City Hall, 118 S Main St., Fairfield, IA 52556.

Ten signatures from eligible 4th Ward electors are needed, although City Hall encourages candidates to get more to protect against any potential issues. A candidate guide is available on the Secretary of State’s website https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/pdf/electioninfo/citycndgde.pdf
