Event postponements and cancellations

The Union has learned of several postponements and cancellations of events by local organizations hoping to limit the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19:
* Both the Washington and Fairfield Legislative Forums planned for Saturday, March 21st have been canceled in light of the recommended ban on groups of 50 or more people (Editor's note: The recommendation was updated to applying to groups of 10 or more people on Monday, March 16).
* The Presbyterian Church in Fairfield is closed and has canceled all meetings and activities until further notice.
* The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is postponing its 2020 Chamber Annual Awards Banquet scheduled for April 9.
* Henry County Conservation is postponing its Pocket Solar System event scheduled for March 24. It is also postponing its program on Iowa Birds scheduled for March 31.
* Rubio Music Jam has been canceled.
* The Jefferson County Treasurer's Office announced it will be closed to the public until further notice. Property tax/motor vehicle payments can be sent though the mail (PO Box 308), over the phone (641-472-2340/2349) or online at www.iowatreasurers.org. There is also a drop box located by the north doors that will be checked throughout each work day. The office will honor the postmark for mail ins. The driving skills tests have been indefinitely postponed. The office is currently contacting everyone who has a test scheduled between now and April 10th. Rescheduling will be allowed at a later date. Those who need Drivers License can contact the nearest IDOT state stations: Ottumwa (641-382-4855), Burlington (319-754-8767) and Iowa City (319-338-5294).
