From being president of the Mt. Pleasant school board to working as an associate professor of business at Iowa Wesleyan University to being a member of the foundation board for the Mt. Pleasant Public Library, Jennifer Crull is no stranger to the Mt. Pleasant community.
'I don't like being bored, and being involved with so much keeps me entertained,” Crull said. 'It helps keep my schedule up to date and myself very organized.”
For Crull, being involved with many community groups and activities, such as the Midwest Central Railroad, the American Legion Auxiliary of Henry County and the Rotary Club, meant facing the challenge of how to move forward with COVID-19.
'When it comes to meeting for these committees and groups, we have to decide if it's possible and are we going to be safe,” she said. 'But whether it's in person or on Zoom, meeting up and maintaining contacts is essential for our mental health.”
In regards to moving forward with the COVID vaccine, Crull thinks it will be a while until things begin to resemble the normal of before.
'This school semester is just going to be one more semester getting closer to that normal we desire, whatever that may be,” she said. 'I'm still waiting for the education training session on how to lead in a pandemic.”
Crull never thought herself to be an everyday hero, even though her passion for Mt. Pleasant shines through her community involvement.
'I care about my community,” Crull said. 'I love it very much. I graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and got to go to Iowa Wesleyan before I transferred.”
'Mt. Pleasant is what made me who I am, and it's my pleasure to give back to the community as much as I can.”
