FAIRFIELD — Fairfield residents were disappointed when the July Art Walk had to be canceled due to weather.
Luckily, they won’t miss a thing because Fairfield First Fridays Art Walk was able to reschedule the event and its theme of “Dancing Through the Decades” for the August Art Walk this Friday from 6-10 p.m. in Fairfield’s Central Park. DJ Allentastic (Allen Jolley), who was scheduled to be at the July Art Walk, will play hits from each decade, with music from the ‘60s from 6-7 p.m., ‘70s music from 7-8 p.m., ‘80s tunes from 8-9 p.m., and everything from the ‘90s till today from 9-10 p.m.
Fairfield First Fridays Art Walk Executive Director Marla Brader said that so many people reached out to her after the July event was rained out, hoping that she would reschedule it.
“As anybody who does events knows, rescheduling them is hard because you have to coordinate with vendors, the city, and a lot of people,” Brader said. “I checked with our DJ, Allentastic, about his availability, and we decided to do our July event in August. I knew that people loved Dancing Through the Decades, but I was still really surprised at how many people reached out about how much they missed it.”
Just like at all the outdoor art walks, Friday’s Art Walk will feature music and dancing, local art and craft vendors, food, lawn games, and foam blocks for young children, which are new this year.
While Central Park is bustling with activity, residents can stop in at the Carnegie Historical Museum to learn something about one of Jefferson County’s Heritage Farms, part of a monthly series the museum does to honor the oldest farms in the county that have been in the same family for 150 years or more. The museum will be open from 6-9 p.m. This month’s featured farm belongs to Martha Flinspach, and there is a special exhibit containing photographs and artifacts relating to the farm.
