A sister-city agreement between Fairfield and Florencio Varela, Argentina, could be the start of a beautiful relationship.
Although Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy had already signed an agreement with the Argentinean city, he sought the approval of the Fairfield City Council Monday evening.
The agreement, Malloy explained, was signed during a recent trip the Florencio Varela mayor made to attend the Maharishi University of Management graduation ceremony.
?He was very impressed with what we have for the size of our city,? Malloy said.
The agreement focuses on education, culture, science, technology and trade on a volunteer basis. It can easily be dissolved with 30 days notice.
At the Argentinean mayor?s invitation, Malloy will attend an annual meeting of a Latin American organization consisting of 10,000 mayors and city officials in September.
?To get an invitation to be a sister city was somewhat novel,? Malloy said, referring to previous attempts to establish international relationships.
