The Fairfield bowling program left Flamingo Lanes Saturday afternoon with four victories.
Two of those wins were the first two victories of the season for the Trojan varsity squads ? and first in Fairfield program history ? with the boys posting a 2364-2120 win and the girls winning 2312-2067 vs. Washington. The JV boys won 1939-1865 while the JV girls won 1258-1137.
?Us coaches are extremely happy with the progress all of the bowlers are making,? said head coach Lisa Greenig. ?It?s definitely encouraging to see the bowlers get their first official win. And not just a win, but doing it with flair by making it a sweep with all four teams winning.?
In the varsity boys? match, Fairfield tallied an 802-596 advantage from the five baker games to cruise to victory after leading by just 42 after round one. Derek Scearcy led the Trojans in round one with a two-game series score of 360. Jake Keller posted the high game score of the day for Fairfield knocking down 190 pins in his first game of the day. Keller went on to a 347 series. Kevin Thorn (268), Josh Cooper (307) and Jordan Van Blaricom (280) rounded out the Fairfield scoring in round one.
Fairfield recorded a ?less than stellar? 125 in the opening baker game, but rebounded with high scores the rest of the way.
?In the past, this group would have gotten frustrated with a 125 and continued to struggle, but the boys are learning to make the necessary adjustments for the lane conditions,? Greenig said. ?I?m very proud of the way they fought through.?
Amanda Chatfield bowled the highest score of any bowler on the day with a roll of 209 to lead the Fairfield girls. That score was a 61-pin improvement from her game one score of 148.
?Amanda didn?t allow a low first game throw off her whole day and I?m proud she made the adjustments to recover for her team,? said Greenig. ?Even as a sophomore, Amanda has really stepped into a leadership position the way she helps encourage teammates every step of the way.?
Freshman Alyssa Chatfield helped the Trojans with a two-game series score of 333, Samantha Ruckman posted a 310, Chelsey Wagner bowled a 282 and Megan Harris scored a 277. Fairfield then went on to beat Washington 753-669 in the baker games.
In the JV boys match, Jacob Adam scored a 297, and Gabe Hull posted a 259 in round one games to lead Fairfield to the victory. Erin Kritenbrink bowled a 291 as part of the three-girl team to get past Washington in the JV girls match.
Fairfield will be back at Flamingo Lanes again Saturday hosting Keokuk in their last home meet of the season.
