EDDYVILLE ? Following a 12-0 deficit early, Fairfield played as well as it has all season according to head coach Tyler Miklo and blew past Eddyville-Blakesburg (5-11) for a 68-53 win in non-conference action Monday night.
Davis Lowenberg led Fairfield with 17 points and Grant Curran neared a triple-double with 15 points ? 13 scored in the second half ? 13 rebounds and eight assists. Curran also assumed ball-handling responsibilities against the Rockets? full-court pressure.
?It was about as complete of a game as we could?ve played,? Miklo said. ?We played aggressive, took the ball right at their zone and made free throws down the stretch to finish the job.?
The 68 points is a season high for a Fairfield team (3-13) averaging 41 points per contest entering the Monday. A total of four Trojans finished the game in double-figures as they erased the early deficit and managed a two-point lead heading into halftime. Trailing 26-15 in the second quarter, the half ended on a 15-2 run.
?We didn?t panic. We got down, but were taking good shots that just weren?t falling,? said Miklo. ?We knew they would start falling. Brent Buch hit a big 3-pointer and we started getting to the free throw line.?
Buch finished with 10 points as Fairfield hit 15-of-26 from the stripe and also dominated the boards with a season-best 38 rebounds ? 16 coming on the offensive end.
Jordan Leazer added 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go with four steals and Dillon Fry had five points and six boards.
Brandon Reed led the Rockets (7-10) with 16 points.
Fairfield?s game scheduled for tonight at Mid-Prairie has been rescheduled for Feb. 10. Next up is Friday?s home freshman-JV-varsity tripleheader against Keokuk.
