Fairfield Chamber plans four legislative forums
Jan. 16, 2023 12:33 pm
The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce has announced another season of public forums where residents can ask questions of their local representatives at the State Capitol in Des Moines.
The chamber will hold four forums, one each month from January to April, beginning with the forum on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Activities Building at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Just as in years past, the monthly sessions will be held from 7:30-9 a.m.
Legislators will provide a brief update followed by focused Q&A. Topics will be chosen monthly based on the work happening at the capital. Questions should be limited to the topics selected each month.
Coffee and donuts will be provided to participants. These events are free and open to the public.
Elected officials invited to attend include:
•Iowa Senate District 41 Representative Adrian Dickey
•Iowa House District 88 Representative Helena Hayes
•Iowa House District 87 Representative Jeff Shipley
The next three Legislative Forums after Jan. 21 will be held at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. The sessions will be held from 7:30-9 a.m. on Feb. 18, March 18, and April 8.
The 2023 Legislative Forum Sponsors include: Freeman Kevenides Law Firm, Fairfield Community School District, Access Energy Cooperative, Sierra Club, Jefferson County Farmers and Neighbors (JFAN), Morrissey Law Offices, and the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center.
For more information, contact the Fairfield Chamber at 641-472-2111 or email Chamber@FairfieldIowa.com.
For those who need a refresher on the new district map the Iowa Legislature adopted, Hayes’s House District 88 includes all of Keokuk County, the eastern half of Mahaska County including Oskaloosa, and the northern half of Jefferson County, excluding Fairfield. Shipley’s House District 87 includes the southern half of Jefferson County including Fairfield, all of Van Buren County and the southwest corner of Henry County, including Mt. Pleasant. Dickey’s Senate District 41 is just House District 87 and 88 put together.
