FAIRFIELD - The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce will host its third legislative briefing of the year via Zoom Saturday morning.
The forum lasts from 7:30-9 a.m. The event is an opportunity for residents to ask questions of the four state legislators who represent portions of Jefferson County: Sens. Adrian Dickey (R-Packwood) and Jeff Reichman (R-Mt. Pleasant) and Reps. Jeff Shipley (R-Birmingham) and Joe Mitchell (R-Mt. Pleasant).
The Chamber hosts monthly forums from January through April, when the Iowa Legislature is in session. There is no cost to participate in the forum.
Shipley, who has not participated in the first two forums of the year and who has voiced his displeasure with the forums, announced he will hold his own briefing that same morning from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Fairfield Hy-Vee Community club room. That
'The purpose of this roundtable is to learn and explore complex topics to better understand their impact in our community,” Shipley said. 'This dialogue in turn will give me guidance on how to proceed in my role as state representative.”
Shipley said the topics at his briefing could include but are not limited to farm commodities and Asian markets, pork exports, ethanol production, pollution and industrial externalities.
