FAIRFIELD – Fairfield Community Center will host a 10-part series on family issues and substance abuse.
The group will meet Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. starting Feb. 1. Fairfield resident Cathleen Casey will lead the class. She said every class will feature watching a video by Dr. John Bradshaw, who she said was a pioneer in the field of treating addictions and recovering from addictions.
Casey said each class will be on a different but related topic. For instance, the first class will be on handling crises in the family. She said several of the videos will touch on the various ways that alcoholism and substance abuse affect an entire family.
Casey said she was inspired to host a series on this topic after seeing that Fairfield could use more mental health services in the wake of suicides and a high-profile murder.
“I felt it was necessary to educate people on alcoholism and addictions,” she said.
Casey says that there is a recommended donation of $1 per class to defray the cost of utilities for the Fairfield Community Center.
