FAIRFIELD – The Fairfield City Council approved erecting a few street signs around town to better control the flow of traffic.
The council voted unanimously 4-0 at its meeting Monday night, Aug. 25, to install a “No Parking Any Time” sign on the south side of Harrison Avenue, east of its intersection with Second Street. It also voted to add signs that read “No Parking M-F, 6AM to 2PM” on a few streets near Dexter Laundry and the Dexter Soccer Fields. The four present council members were Tom Twohill, Doug Flournoy, Paul Gandy and Matthew Rowe. Elizabeth Estey and Terri Kness were absent.
One of those “No Parking M-F, 6AM to 2PM” signs will go up on both side of 23rd Street from Grimes Avenue to 550 feet north of the centerline of Grimes Avenue. 23rd Street is the north-side street immediately west of Dexter Laundry, and the company requested this no parking sign to accommodate their semi trucks that are having trouble getting into and out of the company’s delivery driveways.
The other sign that will say “No Parking M-F, 6AM to 2PM” will go up along Grimes Avenue south of the Dexter Soccer Fields, and will replace the sign that reads “No Parking This Side.” Fairfield City Engineer and Public Works Director Melanie Carlson said that vehicles routinely park along Grimes Avenue when the soccer fields are busy such as during soccer tournaments, and so the new sign will bring the street in alignment with how it’s actually used.
