FAIRFIELD - The Fairfield City Council voted to create a task force Monday to study what the city needs for a new fire station.
Fairfield City Administrator Aaron Kooiker said the 14-member task force will listen to experts who can provide ideas on what the new fire station will need. He said the task force is a way for the community to be more involved in the decision-making process.
The ultimate decision about where to put the fire station or matters of that nature will be left to the council, but the task force can play a role in making recommendations to the council.
Kooiker said the decision about building a new fire station might go to a referendum. If it does, he said it will be nice to have had a group of community members who studied the issue.
'They will know that we're not spending the money frivolously,” he said.
The task force will consist of:
' Amanda Konczal
' Amy Van Beek
' Brian Stone
' Carl Metcalf
' Charity Richardson
' Deb Buch
' Don Hoelting
' Ed Malloy
' Greg Hanshaw
' Hopi James
' Jeff Koontz
' Shawn McCarty
City Council member Katy Anderson said the task force is looking for a 14th member.
