FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Farmers Market will host a number of special events for kids and adults Saturday in honor of Farmers Market Week.
The market, which meets at Howard Park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, will host a drawing for $100 worth of groceries from market vendors. The drawing for that basket of goods will be at 11 a.m., and residents must be present to win.
Barb Sieren, the market’s social media director and event planner, said the basket of goods will include things such as a pie, bread from Breadtopia, jam, honey, and locally grown vegetables.
“We’ll include whatever we can find from our vendors,” Sieren said.
The farmers market booth will give away bags at its informational booth, which will have a farm coloring booth and colored pencils aimed at kids between the ages of 4-12.
Starting at 9 a.m., the market will hold a Scavenger Hunt, where participants can pick up a card with a list of items they must find from market vendors. After finding all the items, they can turn in their card for a $5 voucher redeemable at any market vendor. There is a limit of 30 vouchers.
Youngsters can have fun diving into an inflatable swimming pool filled with corn, starting at 10 a.m. Kids can pick up a bingo card to play next to the corn pool, and receive a $5 voucher for getting a bingo. At 11 a.m., coins will be added to the pool of corn, so kids can search for them.
Special music that day will be provided by Adam and the JimBob Cats, who will perform at 10 a.m.
The day’s events are being sponsored by APEX Clean Energy.
“This is the first time we’ve done these events for Farmers Market Week,” Sieren said. “We tried to do something similar last year during Kiwanis Kids Day, but hardly anybody came to [Howard Park]. People just wanted to stay downtown.”
Sieren said she’s hoping that, with no other events to compete with that day, there will be a good turnout at Saturday’s market.
