Fairfield firefighters respond to garage fire

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Fire Department responded to a garage fire Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported just before 4 p.m. at 500 W. Broadway Ave., immediately northwest of Dollar Tree. Firefighters responded and were able to extinguish the fire in the garage before it spread to the house or any neighboring properties.

Fairfield Fire Chief Brett Ferrel said nobody was in the garage or the neighboring house at the time of the fire, and that it was reported by a passerby who saw flames coming from the building. Ferrel said it’s not clear what started the fire, though it appeared to have started outside the building and then spread to the eaves of the garage and later the roof.

Ferrel said there was no vehicle in the garage, and that it appeared to be used mostly for storage. Firefighters remained on the scene for 45 minutes.
