FAIRFIELD - The Fairfield Flying Club will host a fly-in from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Fairfield Municipal Airport.
Fairfield Flying Club member Rene Holmberg mentioned that it will be the first fly-in at the airport for a few years. The flying club that's hosting it was established in 1955, later went defunct, and was just revived in the summer of 2019.
The club has a number of activities planned for the day such as breakfast and lunch options available from Sweet ‘n Saucy. Fly-in pilots get a free breakfast. For a fee, members of the public can receive an airplane ride.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office will exhibit its drone, which it has used in operations such as searching for a missing person. Another exhibit will be a powered paraglider. A powered paraglider is a person who wears a back-mounted motor that pushes them forward, while a soft wing they wear like a parachute keeps them airborne, just above the ground. Holmberg said he hopes the public will take a greater interest in powered paragliding once they see it in person.
The Young Eagles, a program through the Experimental Aircraft Association which gets young people into aviation, will be there to offer a sign-up for future plane rides. Indian Hills Community College's flight school will have a booth where they will educate attendees about careers in flying.
