FAIRFIELD – A young girl was seriously injured after being hit by a pickup truck in downtown Fairfield.
According to a report from the Fairfield Police Department, a 7-year-old girl named Tran Nguyen Nguyen was struck while crossing Burlington Avenue at the intersection with Main Street on Saturday, Aug. 31.
“Ms. Nguyen was on a pedal bike when she was given a green light to cross the street,” stated the narrative from the police report.
A 2004 Ford F-250 Super Duty driven by Angela Rae Diers, 49, of Lockridge, was coming from the west and attempting to make a right turn when she ran over Nguyen as Nguyen crossed the street on her bike.
“Ms. Nguyen showed signs of serious injury and was transported by ground EMS to the Jefferson County Health Center,” the report stated. “The driver of [the vehicle] stated that she was stopped at the red light and when she turned, she did not see Ms. Nguyen. Ms. Nguyen’s parents stated that [the vehicle] did not stop at the light.”
Diers was given a citation for failure to observe a traffic control device.
