Twenty-seven members of the Fairfield chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), plus their adviser and two chaperones, attended the Fall Leadership Conference Oct. 3-4 in Des Moines.
All FBLA chapters in Iowa attended this conference, where the state officers presented an introduction to the 2021-22 FBLA school year. During the opening session, motivational speaker, published author, and “woman of the year” Ashley Brinton spoke to the members about reaching higher and going beyond your personal limitations, struggles, and challenges.
Following the opening session, members were given the opportunity to engage in workshops of their choice. The topics of these workshops varied to fit the interest of each member. These topics included: how to survive your first week of college, marketing your hobbies, how to stand out for your next interview, how to make a resume, etc.
Members participated in three of these workshops that were 45 minutes each. These workshops helped prepare members for the real world and gave tips and advice about going to college, getting your first job, and how to successfully communicate with others. After the workshops, there was a dinner at the hotel and games for the members to participate in. They played bingo, mini golf, bags, and checkers while socializing with other chapter members from the state of Iowa.
This was a great way to form connections and make new friends with common interests. The next morning, there was a closing session where the members gathered and the state officers summed up the evening and closed up the conference.
Following this, the Fairfield chapter toured a local business named Life Serve, a blood center in Des Moines. Students toured the business and learned about the services it provides in the medical field and about the responsibilities of running a business.
