FAIRFIELD — Jeff Schafer was putting the finishing touches on freshly poured concrete Monday outside the Fairfield High School Auditorium.
The new concrete is adjacent to the new Trojan Honor Courtyard on the south lawn of the high school. The project began in 2020 and honors the school’s tradition of fine arts with a courtyard in an octagonal shape inside a concrete sitting wall and brick floor.
Fairfield High School Principal Aiddy Phomvisay said that, though the recent concrete pouring was adjacent to the courtyard, it’s not meant as a continuation of the project. He said the school simply noticed there were cracks in the concrete outside the auditorium that needed to be fixed.
“We just wanted to make it safe for pedestrians and those with mobility concerns,” Phomvisay said. “We want to make our entrance as nice and welcoming as possible. We’re excited to get the school year started with our halls all polished, walls painted and our new parking lot.”
In addition to the new parking lot that was poured in June on the west side of the property, students also will notice that all parking lines have been painted orange this year. Phomvisay said that was done to instill school spirit, since Fairfield’s school colors are orange and black.
Fairfield’s first day of school is Monday, Aug. 28.
