FAIRFIELD — Fairfield High School’s prom is back.
The school had to cancel last year’s event due to the pandemic, but this year the promenade will return at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Fairfield gymnasium. That is when couples will take turns in the spotlight as they walk along the red carpet.
The theme this year is “The Enchanted Forest.” The event is free and open to the public. Masks are required for students and spectators.
After the promenade, the students will migrate to the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center for a dance from 9 p.m. to midnight. The after-prom party begins as soon as the dance ends, and will last until 3 a.m., also at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. A hypnotist will perform from 12:30-1:30 a.m. in the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts inside the convention center. Students will be treated to games, a food court and raffle drawings.
Fairfield High School secretary Amy Megrath said she appreciates the hard work of the after-prom committee, consisting of parents of the junior class, and the businesses who donated the raffle prizes.
In 2020, the Fairfield school district canceled the prom planned for April. A group of parents led by Summer Lisk organized a prom on their own, which was held in July at Boarders Inn & Suites.
