Fairfield High School to rename Auditorium in honor of three former teachers
Jan. 17, 2024 3:59 pm
FAIRFIELD – The Fairfield Community School District Board of Directors has approved changing the name of the Fairfield High School Auditorium to honor three teachers who once called it home.
The FHS Auditorium will be renamed The Mitcheltree, Slechta, Edgeton Auditorium.
The three “Fairfield alumni” the name honors are Linda Mitcheltree, who was a Vocal Music Instructor from 1983 to 2009; Scott Slechta, who was an English Teacher from 1984 to 2017; and Jim Edgeton, band instructor from 1992 to 2021.
“We are thrilled to honor these alumni by naming our new auditorium after them,” said Dr. Stephanie Mishler, Interim Superintendent. “There are many performances to come, and naming the building after these artistic alumni sets the tone. Moreover, we want to thank Linda, Scott, and Jim for all the years they supported and contributed to our fine arts programs.”
Slechta was also named Iowa Teacher of the Year in 2016.
All three honorees held performances of one kind or another in the auditorium, with Mitcheltree leading the choir, Edgeton leading the band, and Slechta leading the high school’s drama department.
