Fairfield honors Memorial Day

Fairfield's Memorial Day service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in Central Park.
The Tarnished Brass Band will meet at the Ron Prill Bandstand at 9:30 a.m. and begin performing at 9:50 a.m.
Jim Kennedy of Dimmitt Vorhies Post No. 2271 will welcome those in attendance. The Bowman family of Baylee, Brynna, Blair and Brittan will sing 'God Bless America,” accompanied by the Tarnished Brass Band.
The Rev. Dick Green of Victory Fellowship in Brighton will give the invocation. The Memorial Day address will be given by Commander Dan Callahan of VFW Post No. 2271.
Two Fairfield High School students will read. Junior and All-State speaker Gabriel Zimmer will read the Gettysburg Address. Senior Michael Hunt will read Logan's General Orders.
The second half of the ceremony will be conducted at the Jefferson County Veteran's Monument.
An area 10-15 Transportation bus will transport those who cannot walk from the park to the veteran's monument.
At the monument service, the hymn 'Nearer My God to Thee” will be sung, followed by an invocation from the Rev. Green, the laying of the wreaths at the monument, and the hymn 'Rock of Ages.” Iowa Command Brass Band buglers Jeff Six and Jeff Crile will play taps.
In the event of rain, the service will be moved to the Iowa Army National Guard Armory.
