FAIRFIELD – Fairfield’s Central Park was full of people dancing, eating and enjoying each other’s company for the first outdoor art walk of the year on Friday, June 3.
The Roman Cadillacs supplied the live music for the event as they rocked out in the Ron Prill Bandstand. Around the outside of the park were food vendors selling tasty treats, and vendors lined the sidewalks on the northern part of the park. Children took the opportunity to play yard games such as bean bags.
The Fairfield Art Association unveiled its summer downtown art installation called “WINDOWS – Through the Looking Glass.” Steve Maxon unveiled his collection of metal sculptures at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, which also hosted an art gallery dedicated to Jenny Sammons and her recent works.
Residents who missed Friday’s art walk should not despair because they have several more chances to join in the fun later this year. The July art walk is on July 2, and the theme is Summer Celebration. That is also when the Jefferson County Trails Council will hold its drawing for its annual scavenger hunt. Participants can get a clue card at various trailheads or at The Ride bike shop, then find the 10 punches hidden throughout the loop trail and turn in their clue card for a chance to win prizes.
The theme of the August art walk on Aug. 6 is Blues and Central Park, followed by Central Park Open Mic on Sept. 3. The final outdoor art walk of the year is Oktoberfest on Oct. 1.
