Fairfield in video contest with other Iowa towns, winner gets mural

FAIRFIELD — Visit Fairfield Iowa is encouraging residents to vote for Fairfield in a contest to win a mural for the town.

The city’s tourism office put together a one-minute video and entered it in a competition with 39 other towns, all of which have made videos showcasing their attractions, restaurants and downtowns. The #IowansUnite Community Pride video contest is being put on by the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

Visit Fairfield Iowa’s Executive Director Terry Baker said she was fortunate that several local videographers shared content with her that she used in Fairfield’s submission. Fairfield’s entry shows people visiting shops such as Adela’s and Thymely Solutions, eating at Lunchbox, Revelations and Taco Dreams, and partaking in Fairfield First Friday events. Baker included drone footage of cyclists riding through the downtown, and of people gathering for outdoor dining at Fishback & Stephenson Cider House.

Voting for the contest has begun and will continue until 5 p.m. June 30, when the town with the most votes will be declared the winner. The winning town will receive a mural designed and installed by Iowa artist Ben Schuh that welcomes visitors to its shopping district or downtown.

“We know that murals are a huge attraction, so this is a really cool thing the state is doing by providing a custom mural,” Baker said.
