FAIRFIELD – The Fairfield Lions Club hosted its spaghetti supper for the first time in three years on Tuesday, March 25.
The event drew a good crowd and generated more revenue than the last event, according to the preliminary numbers from spaghetti supper committee member Bob Keller.
“We thought it went really well,” Keller said. “We think it was successful enough that we’re going to try to get this back on the annual event schedule.”
The event, held at Fairfield Middle School, is a fundraiser for the school district’s athletic and fine arts departments. Students in those activities work at the supper by serving food and drinks and bussing tables.
“It’s so great to work with the students,” Keller said. “It makes us proud to have the students help out because they’re all so nice and so willing to help. They come up and say, ‘Need me to help you do anything?’ It’s wonderful to get that response from them.”
Providing live entertainment that evening were the high school jazz band and Vox choir. In between those musical acts, Keller and Mendy McAdams drew names for the raffle prizes. Keller said the club garnered a ton of donations for both the raffle and silent auction, with about 64 items for the raffle drawing.
“Donors were really good about giving to us,” he said. “We wouldn’t have raised this money without them.”
This spaghetti supper was the 15 th one the Lions Club has done. The idea for a fundraising spaghetti supper began with former Fairfield Activities Director Brad Rose. Later, the Fairfield Lions Club took over the tradition of hosting the meal under the leadership of Lane Bush.
