FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Police Department has arrested a suspect wanted in connection to a home invasion Friday morning in Fairfield.
Brandon Paul Becker, 37, was apprehended by law enforcement in Van Buren County over the weekend following a brief pursuit, according to a news release from the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office. Charges are pending for his actions in Jefferson and Van Buren counties, to include burglary in the first degree charges for the home invasion that occurred Friday morning in Fairfield.
Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding said the public’s assistance in apprehending this defendant “has been greatly appreciated by all involved.”
Moulding issued a news release Friday morning indicating the police were looking for Brandon Paul Becker, 37, who they termed a “person of interest” in the home invasion that occurred at a home on Third Street near the intersection with Burlington Avenue at 6 a.m. Friday. At least one person was reported injured in the home invasion.
Becker already had a warrant out for his arrest before his alleged involvement in Friday’s home invasion. In February 2023, Becker was charged with domestic assault for allegedly striking his girlfriend in the head and dragging her across the carpet on her face. Becker pleaded guilty to the domestic assault charge. A month later in March 2023, Becker was arrested again for allegedly violating the no-contact order created in response to his assault charge in February.
On Aug. 31, Becker failed to appear for a pretrial hearing regarding the revocation of his probation, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Though the county attorney’s office did not release any details about Friday morning’s home invasion, a woman named Sue Baker came forward to say that her son was the man who was injured during the invasion.
Baker said her son, Kyle Schrobilgen, was taken to the Jefferson County Health Center after Becker struck him in the head and arms with a metal pipe, after Becker busted down the door to the apartment. She said her son suffered five hematomas — a bruise where blood pools under the skin — in the attack.
Schrobilgen is dating Becker’s ex-girlfriend, the same woman Becker pleaded guilty to assaulting in February. Baker said that the girlfriend left the apartment that morning to get clothes for her two children, while Schrobilgen was getting the kids ready for day care. That’s when Becker allegedly broke down the door and began beating Schrobilgen with a pipe.
“Kyle did not know Brandon. They had never met before,” Baker said. “Kyle was beaten in the head with a metal pipe, and beaten in his arms. I don’t know who called the cops. Kyle thinks he was dialing 911, and then Brandon smashed the phone. This was more than a home invasion. My son was nearly killed.”
Baker said her son was treated for his injuries at Jefferson County Health Center that morning and was released later that day with a prescription for pain medication.
