FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield man has been charged with assisting a suicide and abetting the reckless use of a firearm.
Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding announced Monday that law enforcement had arrested Finnegan Edward Malloy, 21, of Fairfield. The charges against Malloy were prompted by an investigation into the death of 19-year-old Fairfield resident Caleb Heisel on Nov. 7.
On that date, law enforcement and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to a home in Fairfield. The reporting party, Malloy, told authorities that Heisel had shot himself in the head while playing “Russian roulette,” according to a report from the County Attorney’s Office.
Authorities found Heisel deceased upon arrival, with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head and found a firearm with one spent cartridge at the scene, believed to belong to Malloy.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the death, Heisel’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
On Nov. 24, Fairfield Police arrested Malloy and charged him with one count of assisting suicide and one count of aiding and abetting the reckless use of a firearm, each Class C felonies.
