FAIRFIELD – Wednesday, May 29 was the last day of school in the Fairfield Community School District, and middle school students celebrated by getting covered in colored powder.
Fairfield Middle School has created a tradition of hosting a “Color Run” on the last day of school as a fun activity to springboard into summer. Students don white shirts and run through a spray mist to ensure that the powder sticks to their clothes. They run around the outside of the building, where teachers and staff scoop powders of various colors from a bag and fling them into the air for the students to run through.
By the end of the race, the students are barely recognizable as their face and clothes are turned all different colors.
Wednesday marked the fifth time Fairfield Middle School has hosted the Color Run. Elsewhere around the district, Pence Elementary School hosted its end-of-year assembly that morning, while the Fairfield High School hosted a “block party” at Trojan Stadium, where retiring teachers were honored in a ceremony.
