Fairfield notches a ?W? on the road vs. Davis County

BLOOMFIELD ? Fairfield got things started at the free throw line, ended things at the free throw line and picked up its first win of December with a 58-53 victory at Davis County Tuesday night.

The Trojans (2-5) went to the line a total of 40 times and turned a three-point lead with under three minutes remaining to a 10-point advantage with a 7-0 run that spanned two minutes.

?We?ve been in those situations before when we didn?t pull it out, but it?s good to see the girls do what they need to do to win,? said head coach Billy Strickler. ?It wasn?t always pretty, but we?ll take it.?

Fairfield hit 24 of those 40 attempts led by Serena Ward going 7-for-7 and posting another career high with 26 points.

?I looked back and don?t think I?ve ever had a team that went to the line that much, but it all started with our offense attacking the basket hard,? Strickler added.

Ward added seven rebounds while Tori Ogden was a double-digit scorer for the second straight outing with 13 points. Sidney Baumann chipped in eight points, five rebounds and five steals, Jessica Lamb scored four and Taylor Neil added three more steals.

Davis County (4-3) was led by Kaitlin Fipps with 20 points.

The non-conference set for the Trojans continues with Friday night?s contest vs. Van Buren and will finish with Saturday?s makeup game vs. Danville to close out the pre-winter break schedule.
