Fairfield officer, Washington resident pleads guilty to burglary

FAIRFIELD - Fairfield Police Officer Ryan Mills has changed his plea to guilty on a charge of second degree burglary.

Mills entered the plea during a pretrial conference Monday. He had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge. Mills, 31, of Washington, was charged in February with stealing narcotics from the Veterinary Clinic, P.C. in Fairfield. The charge is a Class C felony.

To avoid any conflict of interest, the prosecution of the case was transferred from the Jefferson County Attorney's Office to the Washington County Attorney's Office. Mills will have a plea hearing June 21 at the Washington County Courthouse.

In March, Washington County Attorney John Gish filed a restitution statement on behalf of the Fairfield Veterinary Clinic seeking $698.08 in compensation for 'narcotics cabinet.”

Mills has been placed on leave by the department.
