Fairfield police investigating train-related death, with help from Iowa DCI

The Fairfield Police Department is investigating a train-related death that happened on April 9. The department is getting help from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release from the DCI.
Fairfield police were called to the 23rd Street railroad crossing at 1:42 a.m. on Apr. 9. The caller told police they saw a person lying near the tracks. When police arrived they found Cortney Heather Haynes, 30, dead. She had injuries consistent with having been hit by a moving train.
Anyone with information about Haynes’ death is asked to call the Fairfield Police Department at 641-472-4146.
