Fairfield Police Officer Cameron Cooksey has resigned from the Fairfield Police Department effective 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Cooksey was the subject of a department investigation of possible misconduct. The investigation involved the Iowa Attorney General's Office and the Division of Criminal Investigation, along with members of the Fairfield Police Department.
Chief of Police Randy Cooksey initiated the investigation immediately upon becoming aware of the misconduct. Chief Cooksey did not directly participate in the investigation due to the close family ties and concern for impartiality necessary to the investigation.
Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy said he is satisfied the matter was handled fairly, in a timely manner and without bias and that the interests of the city have been served.
The city is not permitted to discuss any information about the matter due to the confidentiality of Cameron Cooksey's personnel file as requested by law.
The Iowa Attorney General's Office is reviewing the results of the investigation.
The resignation of Cooksey will be presented to the city council Monday evening.
