Fairfield City Engineer and Public Works Director Melanie Carlson released the following information Tuesday, March 19 about the city’s upcoming road projects and detours.
–
Highway 1 will be closed March 20th at 8:30 AM, until further notice, for completion of the Highway 1 improvements. The closure will be just south of Fillmore Avenue. Through March 24th, Fillmore Avenue will be open, however, beginning Monday, March 25th, the intersection of Fillmore Avenue and Highway 1 will be completely closed. The “hospital detour” will be routed to Iowa Avenue, 2nd Street, and back to Fillmore Avenue. The intersections of Highway 1 with Buchanan Avenue and Libertyville Road will remain open at this time.
Approx. April 15th – the contractor for Crow Creek Bridge intends to move in April 15th. For those not familiar with the project, the bridge on Business 34 (Burlington) near Chautauqua Park will be replaced this summer. The goal is to have it completed by harvest/October. The project consists of complete removal and replacement. For this east Burlington will be closed. Due to work also occurring on Highway 1, the signed detour will be on Glasgow and Osage. There will also be a posted loop trail detour (via Chautauqua to Broadway to Maple to FGCC to Park to Lamson). The first step of the project will be to grade a new access drive to Parkview. This will 1) permanently put it farther from the bridge and the bottom of the hill 2) keep it out of the way of construction. Access will be maintained to Parkview at all times.
A detour route for Crow Creek will be available at a later date.
