FAIRFIELD – Fairfield resident Gretchen Jentz is trying to get the community moving through a series of dance camps this summer.
Jentz’s venture IGNYTE Global Academy will host eight, five-day musical dance theater camps from early June through late August at Golden Magnolia Sanctuary. Jentz said the camps will be a way for attendees to have fun while also building character and experiencing personal growth.
Jentz said the camp is open to people of all ages, because she wants adults to come to help the youth. Ultimately, her goal is for adults to help the youth become leaders themselves so that they can direct the workshops. She said attendees can also look forward to working with guest artists and educators, such as local musician James Perryman.
Jentz said she’s done summer camps in Fairfield for many years, beginning nine years ago when a group of middle school students performed a musical dance theater with an anti-bullying theme that they chose. In addition to these summer camps, Jentz organizes an event called IGNYTE GLOBAL FUN DANCE every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday that meets at 4 p.m. in Spayde Theater, in the MIU library.
The dates for the summer camps are June 3-7, June 24-28, July 1-5, July 8-12, July 29-Aug. 2, Aug. 5-9, Aug. 12-16 and Aug. 19-23. The camp will meet from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day of the week. Those who register by May 15 will receive a 10 percent discount. Jentz can be reached at 701-516-4727 or layli2001@gmail.com.
