Fairfield snow removal requires collaboration

The city of Fairfield wants to remind residents that snow removal this winter is a collaborative effort between the city and its residents. Each one has its own set of responsibilities to keep the sidewalks and roadways clear for travel.
The city depends on individuals to remove the snow berms from in front of their driveways and cars to make the streets safer to travel. Individuals are required to place their shoveled or plowed snow on their own property and not in the city street.
'Please be kind to your neighbor and keep the snow out from in front of all fire hydrants,” states the city's website.
Residents should know that the schedule for sanding or plowing varies from storm to storm. City crews usually work from 5 a.m. to a quitting time around 10 p.m.
Once the city starts sanding, it can usually have the entire town done in four hours, while plowing takes a little longer at six hours.
The square is usually done the night after a snowstorm. The start time depends on the amount of snow that the town received.
'We like to have it picked up before 6 a.m. before the traffic gets too heavy,” states the city's website.
Reminder: There is no parking on the square or a block off of the square from 2-6 a.m. This helps the city crew in clearing the snow more quickly.
