Jul. 16, 2023 9:41 am, Updated: Jul. 17, 2023 10:28 am
Fairfield School Superintendent Laurie Noll announced that she is retiring from her position.
The school district made the announcement on its website Thursday, indicating that Noll was ending her nine-year tenure as school superintendent. Noll has been away from her position for the past three months as she has been on family medical leave, attending to a sick relative.
While Noll has been on leave, the district has relied on Tom Ruble as its interim superintendent. Ruble started that position on May 16 and intended to stay only through July 14, when Noll was expected to return to work at the end of her three months of leave. It’s not clear yet whether Ruble will continue in his role, or whether the school district will find another person to perform the duties of superintendent.
In its news release, the district noted that Noll’s decision to retire was a difficult one.
“With mixed emotions, Dr. Noll expresses her gratitude and looks forward to supporting her family's health needs in this next phase of her life,” read the news release.
The school district said that Noll’s career in education has spanned 40 years, and that during that time she has held positions such as associate, summer custodian help, teacher, department chair, alternative high school principal, curriculum director, and superintendent.
“Her vast experience and unwavering commitment have contributed to the success of the district,” the district stated. “During her tenure in Fairfield, Dr. Noll prioritized the district's financial stability, successfully right-sizing the budget to live within its means. Under her leadership, the district reduced general fund expenditures by over a million dollars while maintaining a strong commitment to providing an exceptional education for students.”
Noll said that she expects the school board and administrative team to make a smooth transition into new leadership, and to continue to offer high-quality education.
"It has been a privilege to serve as your superintendent,“ Noll said. ”The Trojan families will always hold a special place in my heart, and I am grateful for the time I have spent in Fairfield."
Noll said that she is proud of the work she and her colleagues performed in the past nine years.
“From implementing innovative technology initiatives to expanding academic programs and extracurricular activities, we have worked tirelessly to ensure our students receive the best possible education,” she said.
