Fairfield teenager dies in collision

FAIRFIELD - A Fairfield teenager died in a collision west of Fairfield on Saturday, Jan. 24.
A report from the Iowa State Patrol indicated that an 18-year-old girl from Fairfield was driving a 2009 Lexus north on Hemlock Avenue at approximately 10:18 p.m. that day when she lost control of the vehicle due to weather conditions, and was side struck by a 2025 Dodge truck driven by a 20-year-old, also from Fairfield.
The 18-year-old was not wearing a seat belt, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the Dodge truck suffered injuries, a 26-year-old man who was not transported and who was wearing a seat belt, and a 24-year-old woman who was not wearing a seat belt and was taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The report indicates that the crash remains under investigation. Assisting the Iowa State Patrol at the scene were the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Ambulance, Fairfield Police Department, Fairfield Fire Department and Libertyville Fire and Rescue.
