Fairfield to close all railroad crossings except Second Street
Jan. 13, 2024 1:03 pm, Updated: Jan. 15, 2024 9:44 pm
The City of Fairfield has announced that, due to snow accumulation, BNSF will close all at-grade railroad crossings within the city effective Saturday morning, Jan. 13.
An email from Fairfield City Engineer and Public Works Director Melanie Carlson indicated that cars had been getting stuck, causing trains to be held up.
“The crossing will be closed by keeping the crossing arms down, and will remain closed until BNSF has the opportunity to clear the tracks,” Carlson said. “Until further notice, Second Street will be the only railroad crossing available within the Fairfield City Limits.”
The City of Fairfield issued a follow-up message to indicate that the crossings will be barricaded.
The Second Street crossing is the only underpass in the city and that’s why it is not affected by the closures.
