FAIRFIELD — Fairfield First Fridays Art Walk will grace the city’s Central Park from 6-10 p.m. Friday, July 7.
The theme of this month’s art walk is “Dancing Through The Decades.” Led by disc jockey “Allentastic” (Allen Jolley), attendees will be treated to a different decade of music for each hour of the art walk. Fairfield First Fridays Art Walk Executive Director Marla Brader said this is following the same format as last year’s July art walk.
Residents who like golden oldies from the 1960s should come between 6-7 p.m. when those will be played. Music from the 1970s will be played from 7-8 p.m., and the ‘80s will reign from 8-9 p.m. From 9-10 p.m., attendees will be treated to music from the ‘90s, and more recent decades.
“Allentastic DJed for us last year, and he did such a great job,” Brader said. “Everybody enjoyed how interactive he was with the crowd.”
Something new for this year’s outdoor art walks is a collection of foam pylons for children to play in. They were debuted at the June art walk, and purchased with help from a grant from the Greater Jefferson County Foundation.
“That area was so incredibly busy,” Brader said about the popularity of the foam toys in June. “We were super excited to get them out this year, and kids played with them the whole night.”
Brader said the foam toys are covered with an anti-microbial vinyl, which makes them easy to clean in between uses, and makes them stand up well to outdoor play.
“The vinyl covering protects the foam from getting wet,” Brader said. “I saw kids and their dads playing with them, and it looked like the dads were having as much fun as the kids.”
In addition to the kids’ games and music, art walk will host food and craft vendors in the square. Businesses around the square will be hosting art galleries of their own and special promotions.
Just as it has done for several months, the Carnegie Historical Museum will piggyback on art walk by hosting a program on its Heritage Farm of the month. The program at the museum will last from 6-9 p.m. This month’s featured farm is that of the Larry Worley family.
Heritage Farms are those which have been in the same family for 150 years or more. Jefferson County has 14 farms which have received this recognition. Each family is profiled for one month, until its time to change the display, to be debuted at the next art walk.
