Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy announced today the city of Fairfield received word from the Iowa Office of Energy Independence of winning a major grant to improve the energy efficiency of city owned buildings.
?We?re excited,? said Malloy. ?This project puts our sustainability plan in action, and sets the city in a position to lead by example. The grant funds will save our budget nearly $90,000 year in energy costs by improving energy efficiency and reducing energy waste.?
The city?s energy expenses are more than $400,000 per year.
The $485,000 project will make energy improvements to seven city facilities, including city hall, the Fairfield Public Library, Roosevelt Community Recreation Center, Fairfield Fire Department, Fairfield Waterworks, Fairfield Wastewater, and Fairfield Public Works.
The improvements include upgrades to high efficiency lighting and better controls for heating systems, as well as a solar hot water system to heat swimming pool water.
