The road leading to Fairfield’s West Industrial Park is under construction, though motorists should be able to access the businesses in the industrial park.
The city of Fairfield announced that effective Monday, Aug. 9, 23rd Street from Burlington Avenue to 200 feet south of the intersection with Jefferson Avenue would be closed while 23rd Street is being reconstructed.
Detours will direct traffic to 20th Street, and a temporary four-way stop sign will be placed at Jefferson Avenue and 20th Street. Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution in this area.
The affected road leads to numerous businesses, and Fairfield City Engineer Melanie Carlson said the road will be constructed in phases to allow for continuous access.
Smithburg Automotive, TrafFix Devices, Harper Brush and other buildings south of Jefferson Avenue will be accessible via Jackson Avenue. The USPS annex, H & R Block and other buildings along Jefferson Avenue will be accessible via Jefferson Avenue. Wolfe Eye Clinic will be accessible from Burlington Avenue.
