MT. PLEASANT - Henry County nonprofit The Fellowship Cup is holding its fall food drive.
The nonprofit is asking for donations in preparation for the holiday season. Executive director Ken Brown said as summer winds down and the weather gets colder, the nonprofit usually sees an increase in need. Suggested items for donation include canned vegetables, fruits, box meals as well as holiday food items. The executive director said canned meats outside of tuna are good donation items.
Brown said with the coronavirus pandemic, numbers have been down for the nonprofit. Whereas in years past, the Fellowship Cup would see approximately 140 to 150 households come through the food pantry at the end of the month, this year has seen an average of about 100.
Brown said the lower numbers are a result of multiple factors including the expansion of resources and the addition of several food pantries throughout the county. The executive director added there have been less applications for rent assistance as well.
'With our numbers being down, the main thing is finding other areas we can help. We're still here to provide assistance to people,” Brown said.
