The Fellowship Cup will be holding a meeting Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the possibility a community meal program.
?The community is welcome to come talk about the need for a community meal in Henry County and Mt. Pleasant,? said Melisa Bracht-Wagner, Fellowship Cup director.
There previously was a community meal offered, but the program was ended in the beginning of June. The Fellowship Cup now wants to know whether there is an interest in re-starting the program.
If there is an interest in a community meal, funding sources would need to be discussed, said Bracht-Wagner. From past experience, the program would not be able to operate if funded solely by donations.
?Donations for the meal were not covering the cost of the meal,? said Bracht-Wagner.
Concerning Tuesday?s meeting, Bracht-Wagner noted that there has been some miscommunication of information. The meeting is not solely aimed at senior citizens, and there is not a plan for a senior citizen center or community center.
Bracht-Wagner stressed that the community meal would not be in competition with the congregate meals program for seniors held at Hy-Vee. The community meals program would be available for all ages.
