WASHINGTON — From the Jingle Bell Run to a radio play to a lighting ceremony, last weekend was packed with holiday activities in downtown Washington, during the community’s annual “SNOW Day.”
The day was a success, according to Main Street Washington Director Samantha Meyer.
“We had a terrific SNOW day, Small Business Saturday, Breakfast with Santa day and more,” she said in a Facebook post. “The ceremony was beautiful, the lighted parade … was full of fabulous floats and we fully enjoyed having Santa's House … and horse-drawn carriage rides.”
Meyer added that she was thankful for a wave of volunteerism behind the traditional events.
“The SNOW events are only successful because of the caring souls behind them, making over 200 pancakes, organizing 130-plus runners, taking tickets, setting up sound equipment, putting lights together, lining up giant floats, directing traffic, reading 106 beautiful names, capturing picture perfect moments, putting up cones, taking down barricades and more!” she said in another social media post. “I couldn't do it alone and I'm incredibly grateful for all of the community members who volunteer for Main Street Washington to make our town 'where you want to be' for the holidays.”
Several other community efforts were visible across the array of events. The Washington Chamber of Commerce publicly thanked Alliant Energy for its repair of bulbs around the square, while a litany of lighted parade float entries made for a more competitive contest than usual, won this year by the Brighton Chamber of Commerce.
