FHS graduate, teacher to be new principal at middle school
Laura Atwood, a 2003 Fairfield High school graduate and FHS teacher, will be the new middle school principal this fall.

Laura Atwood, a 2003 Fairfield High school graduate and FHS teacher, will be the new middle school principal this fall.
Atwood was one of four finalists interviewed from a pool of 40 applicants.
?We were very impressed by Mrs. Atwood?s passion for serving students, her poise, and her vision of excellence for Fairfield Middle School, said Fairfield Community School District Superintendent Art Sathoff. ?Laura will bring great creativity, enthusiasm and energy to the administrative team and to Fairfield Middle School.?
Sathoff said Atwood?s contract will be brought to the school board for approval at the regular July 11 meeting.
Atwood earned a bachelor of arts degree in social science from Central College and a master?s of arts degree in educational administration from the University of Iowa. In addition, she obtained an endorsement in gifted education from Morningside College.
In her first three years of teaching, Atwood taught world history to sixth- and seventh-grade at-risk, academically gifted and highly academically gifted students at Hanes Magnet School in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Recently she taught psychology, sociology, American themes and United States history at FHS.
