FAIRFIELD – Fairfield High School’s gymnasium will be officially renamed in honor of Dan Breen between the girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball games Friday, Dec. 2.
The ceremony will start at approximately 7 p.m. and last 15-20 minutes immediately following the varsity girls’ game against Washington. After the ceremony in the gym, cake will be served in the FHS commons, where the public is invited to congratulate Coach Breen at that time.
The Breen family will host an extended social gathering at the Elks Lodge on the west side of the square from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.
Earlier that day, Breen will be the featured speaker at the One Fairfield Luncheon hosted by the Fairfield Golf & Country Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Breen inaugurated the girls’ basketball program at Fairfield High School in 1972, and went on to lead the Trojanettes to five straight state tournament appearances from 1982-1986, including a state title in 1983. Before starting his coaching career, Breen played basketball at Parsons College in Fairfield.
