Fairfield High School capped a week of Homecoming festivities Friday with the varsity football team’s 53-7 victory over West Burlington-Notre Dame.
Earlier that day, the students hopped on floats for an afternoon parade that drove past Washington Elementary, the middle school and Pence Elementary before ending up in Central Park for a pep rally. The freshman class won the float contest with its aquatic-themed entry titled “Fishing for a ‘W.’”
The pep rally featured a performance by the cheerleaders and the marching band. FHS English teacher Fred Hucke was the master of ceremonies, and led the students in singing Queen’s “We Will Rock You.”
The Homecoming Court was introduced, including the newly crowned King Ryan Higgins and Queen Ivy Larsen, who had received their crowns the day before at the Thursday Night Showcase. Coach Dane Kool gave the pep talk, telling the students that he and his wife are FHS alumni, and that they had moved around after graduation before deciding that their hometown of Fairfield was the best place to put down roots.
